(6am-3:30pm) Georgette Peters

Artist's Statement:

Toronto has undergone a bicycle revolution within the past decade.
Slow in coming, but definitely in two-wheeled motion. Torontonians claim their own personal mobile space by “pimping out” their bikes with unique and whimsical bells. For the past year, Georgette Peters has been documenting them with her Pentax K1000 film camera and has shot over 170 bells so far. Her work is an up-close-and-personal look at our huge urban bike culture.

Artist's Bio:

Georgette Peters discovered photography with the purchase of a 1976
Pentax K1000 film SLR at a Halifax flea market. A graduate of the York
University Fine Arts program, she has been taking advantage of city
living, documenting the street and cafe life of downtown Toronto. This past year, she has turned her artistic eye on our city's burgeoning bike culture and celebrated it in April 2009 with her first self-explanatory solo exhibition "Does This Ring A Bell?" at the Side Space Gallery on St. Clair West. A cyclist herself, she has ridden miles with the Toronto Bicycle Network, has successfully tackled the hill on Pottery Road and is hoping to continue the trend for the season ahead.
