Annette Mangaard

Artist's Statement:

Recently I went to the Andes to a little village called Puesto Say where I met Benita a shepherdess who lives at high altitude. This 77 year old woman lives in an adobe hut without electricity or running water. She spends her days scampering up mountains chasing her herd of llamas, sheep and goats and cooks all of her meals over an open fire. This is history, but in our world I believe it is revolutionary. Her relationship with mother earth (Mama Pacha) was one of respect and a shared sense of responsibility. She gives back to the earth every day. Perhaps we can look to this as a revolutionary example.
