Artist Statement
It is not often one meets a cowboy at Toronto's City Hall. That is where I met the colouful local character known as Hank the Gladstone Cowboy in March 2009. Within five minutes of our meeting, we agreed to work together on creating a short documentary on his life. It was the beginning of several months of hanging out with Hank at his usual haunts and learning more about the cowboy who loved country music.
Hank Young passed away in October 2009. The many excursions that we had planned to film came to an abrupt end. His unexpected passing meant no more nights at the Newfie bar, no more nights of Gladstone Karaoke, no more shared rums in his apartment and no more of the stories that Hank always had tucked away, waiting for the right moment to share a laugh.
Hank would have loved this attention.
